In the hours following the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, The Gazette worked quickly to publish a four-page “extra” edition of the paper that same day.
The extra was a way to get information to readers as quickly as possible. It was before smartphones and social media. The Gazette had a website, but it was not yet the place readers came to regularly for breaking news.
