Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan graduation speaker at Maharishi University of Management

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio, an advocate for meditation, will be commencement speaker Saturday at the Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield.

University leaders will present Ryan, a Democrat, with an honorary degree during the 1 p.m. ceremony in the Maharishi Patanjali Golden Dome, where more than 500 students will be graduating.

Ryan promotes college affordability, renewable energy expansion and access to health care, the MUM reported.

As part of his health care agenda, Ryan has worked to reduce subsidies for highly processed foods. He wrote the 2014 book 'The Real Food Revolution: Healthy Eating, Green Groceries, and the Return of the American Family Farm.”

Ryan has organized twice-weekly meditation sessions, which he calls the 'Quiet Time Caucus,” for staff and members of Congress. He is working to make integrative health techniques more accessible to veterans, the MUM reported.

Ryan has represented Ohio in Congress since 2003 after serving in the Ohio Senate.
