North Linn’s boys’ basketball team is defending Class 1A state champions and has played in a state title game an unprecedented five years in a row. The Lynx lost three starters to graduation, including all-state point guard Austin Hilmer. Yet, as a 65-51 win over Dyersville Beckman proved Monday night, this Lynx team remains really, really good.
Prep football: IHSAA approves socioeconomic factor to be instituted for football classification. First developed in Minnesota, the factor is free and reduced lunches. If member schools and Iowa Board of Education pass the amendment, it will go into effect next fall.

University of Iowa signee Gabe Arnold moved 890 miles from Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School in Kingston, Pa., to Iowa City for his senior year of high school. A visit to Iowa City and an interaction with City High senior and fellow future Hawkeye Ben Kueter had something to do with it.
Iowa City High’s Ben Kueter has been named the 2022 Gazette area prep football player of the year. He’s an Iowa commit, for both football and wrestling. The Gazette’s coach of the year is Mount Vernon’s Lance Pedersen, who led his Mustangs to the Class 3A state championship game.
