Some of the Gazette-area performances were better on Day 2 of the Iowa High School Athletic Association Class 4A state golf meet Tuesday at Hyperion Field Club in Johnston. Cedar Rapids Xavier placed eighth in the team race, while Linn-Mar senior Christian Cloyd tied for 15th.

Cedar Rapids Xavier held a goal workshop to start the season. Every player on the roster had “state championship” listed as one of their team goals. The Saints have reached the Class 4A tournament and have a chance to accomplishment the unifying objective.
High school volleyball: Iowa City West, Iowa City Liberty reach the Westside Invitational semifinals. Ankeny Centennial tops Pleasant Valley for the tournament championship.
North Linn’s football team moved to 7-0 this season with a 39-7 win Friday night over Midland. The Class A No. 7 Lynx play this coming Friday night at No. 8 Wapsie Valley for the District 4 championship.
