St. Luke’s Hiawatha campus set to open
N/A
Apr. 24, 2012 8:52 am
Aiming to serve a growing population, St. Luke's is opening a new campus in Hiawatha. St. Luke's Hiawatha Campus will open for patients May 21. The clinic is located at 1001 North Center Point Road in Hiawatha. The 20,000 square-foot facility was built in the former Floor Trader building.
The campus will include St. Luke's Physicians and Clinics Internal Medicine, Urgent Care, Imaging Services, Therapy Plus and Medlabs.
“This is an opportunity to bring care closer to people's homes,” said Julie Zuber, Iowa Health Physicians operations director. “Our Urgent Care clinic offers exceptional healthcare during times that best match the work schedules of busy residents.”
This move relocates two existing St. Luke's clinics. St. Luke's Internal Medicine, formerly located 855 A Ave. NE and St. Luke's Bowman Woods Urgent Care 6911 C Ave. NE, both will reopen at St. Luke's Hiawatha Campus on May 21. However, St. Luke's Bowman Woods Family Medicine will remain at 6911 C Ave. NE and will grow with the addition of a third healthcare provider in the fall.
The new Hiawatha Campus is in addition to the existing St. Luke's Children's Campus, which is just down the road at 1079 North Center Point Road in Hiawatha. The Children's Campus opened in 2008 and is home to St. Luke's Pediatrics, Witwer Children's Therapy, Family Counseling and the Child Protection Center.
St. Luke's new Hiawatha Campus will offer Digital X-ray imaging and outpatient physical therapy. St. Luke's Therapy Plus Hiawatha will be the first in the area to offer the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill the world's first and only treadmill using NASA based anti-gravity technology that helps patients with rehabilitation programs.
With the AlterG, patients can run and walk without bearing their entire weight, reducing the impact on the body to optimize rehabilitation and physical therapy outcomes. Its Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology applies a lifting force to the body that reduces weight on the lower extremities and allows precise unweighting – up to 80 percent of a person's body weight, so people can find exactly where the pain stops and natural movement feels good again.
“This treadmill is a breakthrough in enabling our rehabilitation patients to get back to their lives as quickly and effectively as possible,” said Carol Schueller, St. Luke's Therapy Plus manager. “We are pleased to be the only clinic in Cedar Rapids to offer this technology.”
St. Luke's worked with Esco Electric, PipePro, Climate Engineers and Graham Construction Company to complete this project.
Hiawatha Urgent Care wait times will be available online at
