Republicans announce counter rally before Obama Iowa visit

Mar. 23, 2010 4:36 pm
DES MOINES -- Republican Party of Iowa officials said Tuesday they are organizing a Stand Up for Freedom Rally slated to occur on the eve of President Barack Obama's visit to Iowa City Thursday to discuss a freshly signed health-care reform measure.
The rally, in partnership with the University of Iowa College Republicans, is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday on the east lawn of the UI Pentacrest at the Iowa City campus.
Interested participants can register for the Stand Up for Freedom Rally at www.StandUp4Freedom.com.
“Every time the federal government spends a dollar we don't have, Americans lose a little bit of freedom,” said Iowa GOP Chairman Matt Strawn. “Every time the federal government places itself in the middle of personal health care decisions, Americans lose a little bit of freedom. Iowans have had enough and it's time to stand up to our President and stand up for freedom.
“President Obama will find that Iowa has changed dramatically since November 2008,” he added. “There are over 100,000 Iowans that want to go back to work. Instead, this week President Obama and Iowa's Democrats in Congress gave them, and all Iowans, an additional half-a-trillion dollars in generational debt and unprecedented federal control over health care.”
All information regarding the rally may be found online at www.StandUp4Freedom.com.
