Mercy offers adult vaccinations and free educational seminars as part of bus stop tour

Mercy Medical Center will be the local stopping point for a mobile classroom making its way across the country.  The Kimberly-Clark Education Bus will be parked at Mercy on Sept. 27 & 28, offering a variety of infection prevention educational training sessions.   The bus, which features 14 individual, computer-based learning stations, is part of a national campaign called, “Not on My Watch,” utilizing interactive programs to provide education to caregivers on the prevention and treatment of infections.  It offers access to expert speakers, group presentations and roundtable discussions.

Free educational opportunities for the public

In conjunction with the bus stop tour, Mercy will offer other educational options for healthcare workers and the general community. The sessions, which cover topics such as blood borne pathogen training, hand hygiene, bed bugs, lice, scabies, nutrition and influenza, are all free of charge.  The blood borne pathogen training is geared towards daycare providers, school nurses, and other caregivers in the community.  The training takes place at Mercy's Hallagan Education Center on Tues., Sept. 27, 1 to 2 p.m. and Wed., Sept. 28, 11 a.m. to noon.

Adult vaccinations offered

Mercy and Linn County Public Health are also teaming up during the bus stop tour to offer adult vaccinations for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and TDaP (Tetanus, Diptheria and Pertussis). The vaccinations are offered without the additional cost of a physician's referral and are available at the following times:  Tues., Sept. 27, 1 to 6 p.m. and Wed., Sept. 28, 9 a.m. to noon.  The vaccinations will be offered in Mercy's 10
