Animals are on the move in Mercy's pediatrics department! These cool new WOWs (Wireless computers on Wheels), as pictured, are part of a hospital-wide technology upgrade. The pediatrics WoWs are painted to resemble animals - a cow, giraffe and cheetah - making them more kid-friendly, and less intimidating, for Mercy's youngest patients. Little Sawyer Layrock, 2, of Walford, was one of the first patients to see the new mobile computers when this WoW was wheeled into his room on Feb. 27. He was all smiles! The WoWs allow care providers to access patient records and chart at the bedside.
Mercy purchased more than 300 of the mobile WOWs as part of a major technology upgrade which includes implementation of the Epic electronic patient management system. The WoWs for The Birthplace and Pediatrics are the only ones with customized paint jobs. The WoWs will be rolled out to departments throughout the hospital during the month of March.
