Women of Linn County, take note: you're more likely to fall victim of heart disease than any other cause of death, including breast cancer. The American Heart Association is partnering with area business women to educate women about their No. 1 killer – heart disease – and help save lives by working to prevent it.
“Each year, we look to community and business leaders to join our fight against heart disease and help make this event successful,” says Kay Driscoll, Chairperson of the Linn County event. “Thanks to their commitment, we're able to reach women in Eastern Iowa and help them live longer, healthier lives. This also enables us to raise thousands of dollars to fund life-saving research at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as well as education and prevention programs in our community.”
The 2011 Go Red for Women Luncheon executive leadership team includes:
Peg Bradke, Director Heart Care Services, St. Luke's Hospital

The annual event draws more than 500 women and men passionate about ending heart disease and stroke and aims to raise $130,000 to further the American Heart Association's goal of reducing deaths from heart disease and stroke by 20% by 2020 while improving the lives of all Americans by 20% by 2020 as well. These goals will be achieved through a combination of prevention and research into life-saving techniques.
