Jerry Mathers, the 'Beaver,' coming to Iowa for talks on chronic diseases

(AP) -- A famed child actor will be making stops in Iowa later this month to talk about health care.
Jerry Mathers, the "Beaver" on the 1950s situation comedy "Leave it to Beaver" will stop in Cedar Rapids, Cedar Falls, Iowa City and Burlington on Oct. 13 to bring attention to patient assistance programs that help the uninsured.
Mathers, who was born in Sioux City, is also expected to talk about the need to effectively address the rising rates of chronic disease.
Mathers, who has diabetes, is traveling with the Partnership for Prescription Assistance bus to raise awareness of the disease. At the events, people will be able to learn about medicines being created to fight chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes and asthma.
