Mental Health First Aid is a 2-day course that educates participants on how to react and respond in an emotional crisis. Following the same concept as physical health first aid, Mental Health First Aid works teach a layperson the skills needed to successfully support a suffering individual until professional help can step in. Horizons, A Family Service Alliance has been able to provide this class to Linn County nonprofits and government agencies via a grant-funded scholarship in 2011.
Due to high-demand and community requests, Horizons has been able to schedule one more Mental Health First Aid class this year. Scholarships are limited to first-come-first-serve and will not be available after December. The final scholarship-eligible session is December 8 & 9, 2011.
