Free prostate cancer screening offered for underserved men

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in American males today. Every year over 232,090 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer, and about 30,350 die. If detected early, prostate cancer is often treatable.
Mercy Medical Center, in cooperation with other area sponsors, is pleased to offer a free prostate cancer screening event to men in our community who are uninsured, underserved or do not have a primary family physician.
The screening takes place on Wed., Sept. 14, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Community Health Free Clinic, 947 14th Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids (next to the Jane Boyd Community Center).
Dinner is provided following the screening.
Who should attend? Men 40 years of age or older at high risk including:
- African Americans
- Men with a family history of prostate cancer
- All men 50 years of age or older
Screenings will include:
- PSA test on-site (blood test)
- Prostate exam
