Conscious Birth Summit 2012

The 6th Annual Conscious Birth Summit will again be taking place at the Iowa City Public Library from 10:00 a.m. though 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2012!!

Our community meeting brings together many health practitioners to teach and share about healthy birthing, pregnancy and early parenting. This year's itinerary, attached above, includes discussions with a physical therapist, acupuncturist, chiropractor, mental health practitioners,OB, midwives and doulas in Meeting Room A. In between talks clips of the film "More Business of Being Born" will be screened. Throughout the day in the Children's Room of the library and at Heartland Yoga ( across the pedestrian mall above the Hotel Vetro) there will free movement classes; yoga for kids, Mommy and Me, prenatal yoga, Bellydancing for Birth and Squatting for Delivery. The Iowa City Babywearers have also scheduled a meeting on the Children's Room that day from 2-4 p.m. ICAN of Northeast Iowa will  present on the issue of the rising rate of delivery by Cesarean Section in the U.S. in Meeting Room D as well.

The event is preceded by  "Childbirth to Childhood Café", on Friday, February 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will be held at Willowwind School, 950 Dover Street, Iowa City.

Parents will learn about family support providers and post-childbirth care options such as in-home care and daycare, Montessori and preschool education, and enrichment opportunities for young children and toddlers.
