Looking for a way to get involved in your community and have an impact on the lives of thousands of Iowans?
The American Heart Association is looking for Team Captains to lead community teams for the August 6 Heart Walk, sponsored by Schneider Electric and the University of Iowa, at the Kirkwood Rec Center. Team captains are responsible for building and motivating teams of family, friends and co-workers as they raise money and walk to build awareness of our No. 1 killer – heart disease.
“Team captains can be well-connected community leaders or everyday people passionate about ending heart disease,” says Emily Fritts, plant manager at Schneider Electric and Heart Walk Chair. “We're looking for people who will help us end heart disease and stroke, and who want to help us spread that message to all of Eastern Iowa.”
The annual event draws more than 1,000 walkers and aims to raise $132,000 to further the American Heart Association's goal of reducing deaths from heart disease and stroke by 20% by 2020 while improving the lives of all Americans by 20% by 2020 as well. These goals will be achieved through a combination of prevention and research into life-saving techniques.
