More than 900,000 Iowans are completely vaccinated against COVID-19

More than 900,000 Iowans have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Friday afternoon.
The Iowa Department of Public Health reported that 914,184 Iowans — or 28.98 percent of the state’s population — have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, an increase of 20,143 from the day before.
State data shows that 864,198 people have completed the Pfizer or Moderna two-dose series and 87,316 people have received the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine.
A total of 951,154 people in the state, including non-Iowans, have been fully vaccinated, state data shows.
To date, 2,174,800 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the state.
In Linn County, 70,951 people, or 31.3 percent of the county’s total population, have been vaccinated as of Friday afternoon.
In Johnson County, that number is 54,899 people, or 36.32 percent of the county’s total population.
Nationally, the CDC reports 222,322,230 COVID-19 vaccine doses had been administered as of 6 a.m. Friday, with 91,175,995 people, or 27.5 percent of the country’s total population, fully vaccinated.
New cases
Iowa added 431 COVID-19 cases and three confirmed deaths Friday.
The new numbers bring the state’s case total to 362,242 and death toll to 5,907, according to IDPH data.
The state’s seven-day average for cases is 426, and the average for deaths is four.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a total of 31,730,950 people in the United States had tested positive for COVID-19 as of 12:30 p.m. Friday, and 567,352 people have died.
Locally, Linn County added 28 cases Friday, bringing its total to 20,442. The county’s seven-day average for new cases is 25.
In Johnson County, 19 cases were reported, for a total of 14,205. Johnson’s seven-day average is 27.
Of the new cases, 96 were children up to age 17, bringing the total number of minors infected in Iowa to 42,526.
Confirmed deaths
Of the deaths confirmed Friday, two were people over 80 years old and one was between 61 and 80.
The deaths happened between April 1 and April 19.
One death each was reported in Jones, Polk and Woodbury counties.
Hospitalizations
Across the state, hospitalizations went from 235 to 217 as of Wednesday. Patients in intensive care went from 56 to 51, and the number of patients on ventilators remained at 24.
Long-term care
One long-term care facility in Iowa was experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak. The number of people sick with COVID-19 remained at 18.
Since the start of the pandemic, 2,309 people within the state’s long-term care facilities have died of the virus, accounting for roughly 39 percent of the state’s COVID-19 death toll.
