Johnson County sees fourth consecutive day of double-digit coronavirus cases

Iowa reported 260 new positive coronavirus cases Saturday, bringing the total to 25,424 since the initial outbreak.

There was one new confirmed death, in Wapello County, bringing the total number of COVID-19-related deaths in the state since March 8 to 681, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.

Johnson County saw its fourth consecutive day of double-digit cases, with 14. That follows 11 cases reported on Wednesday for the previous 24-hour period, 24 on Thursday and 22 on Friday.

Of the 17 total cases reported at the Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion, two more people have recovered, bringing the total recovered at that facility to eight, the Department of Public Health reported.

Hospitalizations in Iowa stand at 182, with 58 intensive-care patients, and 30 patients on ventilators.

Those numbers are down since Friday. The number of patients on ventilators has not been that low since April 9.

In the previous 24-hour period - from 11 a.m. Friday until 11 a.m. Saturday - 3,919 tests were conducted, with 3,659 returning negative.
