Iowa reports 519 new COVID-19 cases, six new deaths
Data shows more than 700,000 Iowans are fully vaccinated

Iowa added 519 new COVID-19 cases and six new, confirmed deaths Friday.
The new cases bring the state total to 355,845 and the number of confirmed deaths to 5,849, according to Iowa Department of Public Health data.
The state’s seven-day average for cases was 512 as of 11 a.m. Friday.
Vaccinations
As of Friday afternoon, 704,654 Iowans are fully vaccinated - marking new milestone - according to IDPH data. The number is equal to 28.08 percent of the 16 and older population in the state.
Overall, 733,783 people have been fully vaccinated in Iowa, including non-Iowans.
The number of total doses administered in the state is 1,794,368, with 1,727,957 doses going to Iowa residents.
In Linn County, the total number of doses administered is 131,422 with 53,172 people fully vaccinated. That is 29.74 percent of the county’s 16 and older population.
In Johnson County, the total number of doses administered is 104,410 with 41,830 people fully vaccinated. That is 33.65 percent of the county’s 16 and older population.
New cases
Linn County added 23 cases Friday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the county to 20,084. Linn’s seven-day average is 21.
Johnson County added 22 cases for a total of 13,796. The county’s seven-day average is 29.
Of the new cases statewide, 100 were children up to age 17, bringing the total of infected minors to 41,267. One new case was reported among education workers, bringing that total to 7,732.
Confirmed deaths
Of Friday’s deaths, two were individuals age 81 and older and four were 61 to 80 years old.
The deaths occurred between March 3 and April 1.
Shelby County reported two deaths, while O’Brien, Polk, Tama and Webster counties reported one death each.
Hospitalizations
Across the state, virus hospitalizations increased from 219 to 228 in the 24-hour period ending at 11 a.m. Friday. Patients in intensive care ticked up from 43 to 49 and the number of patients on ventilators held steady at 20.
Long-term care facilities
Two long-term care facilities in Iowa still are experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks — three or more cases among residents and staff — with 22 people ill.
To date, 2,287 people have died from the virus in Iowa’s care facilities since March 2020.
