Iowa reported 109 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, bringing the total number of infections in Iowa to 372,239, according to data from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
That’s an increase from Tuesday, when 69 new cases were reported. However, the state’s seven-day average for positive cases is 89, which is a decrease from Tuesday.
Polk and Black Hawk counties both saw double-digit increases, with Polk reporting 18 new cases and Black Hawk reporting 16.
An additional 6,035 Iowans had completed their vaccine series as of Wednesday afternoon, for a total of 1,349,779 Iowans fully vaccinated. That’s 50.43 percent of the 12-and-older population that is eligible to be vaccinated.
Confirmed deaths
The state reported six new, confirmed COVID-19 deaths as of 11 a.m. Wednesday, bringing the total to 6,084. Of those, four were between 61 and 80 years old and two were between 41 and 60. One death occurred in April and the remaining in May.
Cerro Gordo, Delaware, Des Moines, Dubuque, Emmet and Muscatine counties all reported one death each.

As of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, 42.78 percent of all Iowans are fully vaccinated. The state reported 1,288,337 people have received both doses of the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech two-shot vaccine while 115,000 people have received the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine.
The state reported 1.4 million people, including non-Iowans, have been fully vaccinated in Iowa.
In Linn County, 109,826 people — 48.44 percent of the population — are fully vaccinated.
In Johnson County, 82,487 people — 54.58 percent of the population — have been fully vaccinated.
Hospitalizations
The number of hospitalizations increased Wednesday from 80 to 85. The number of patients in intensive care rose from 16 to 18, and the number on ventilators stayed at eight.
Long-term care facilities
Four long-term care facilities still are experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks, which are defined as three or more cases among staff and residents. Thirty people within those facilities have tested positive for COVID-19.
