Iowa adds 1,200 coronavirus cases, 83 deaths

Iowa on Tuesday reported 1,200 new coronavirus cases and 83 deaths related to the virus.
The new cases were identified in 3,465 tests in the 24-hour period ending at 11 a.m. Tuesday, for a positivity rate of 34.6 percent, according to data analyzed by The Gazette.
The seven-day average for new cases is 1,628.
The new numbers bring the state total cases to 298,077 and 4,222 deaths since March.
Linn County on Tuesday reported 68 new cases and four deaths, bringing the county totals to 17,388 cases and 268 deaths since March. The county's seven-day average of new cases is 75.
Johnson County reported 45 new cases, bringing its total to 11,747. Johnson's seven-day average is 56.
Hospitalizations
Across the state, hospitalizations decreased by three, going from 555 Monday to 552 Tuesday.
The number of patients in intensive care units also dropped in the 24-hour period, going from 96 to 90, as did the number of patients on ventilators, going from 36 to 30.
Long-term care
In Iowa, 90 of the state's long-term care facilities are experiencing virus outbreaks, an increase of four since Monday.
Briarwood Healthcare Center in Iowa City added one new virus case for a total of seven.
Belle Plaine Specialty Care in Benton County reported 34 cases, with 29 recovered.
To date, 2,067 have tested positive for the virus in long-term care facilities since March, with 1,711 deaths reported in the facilities - or 40.5 percent of the deaths reported in Iowa.
Deaths
Of the 83 deaths reported Tuesday, 45 were among those over age 80, and 29 were among people ages 61 to 80.
Polk County reported eight deaths on Tuesda. Pottawattamie County reported seven, and Kossuth County reported six.
Dubuque and Linn counties reported four deaths. Black Hawk and Sioux counties reported three deaths each.
Counties reporting two deaths were Clay, Dallas, Des Moines, Hamilton, Lyon, Union, Wapello, Woodbury and Wright.
Counties reporting one death were Appanoose, Boone, Bremer, Buchanan, Buena Vista, Carroll, Cerro Gordo, Clayton, Dickinson, Emmet, Franklin, Grundy, Guthrie, Hardin, Harrison, Henry, Humboldt, Louisa, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Mills, Mitchell, Page, Plymouth, Sac, Scott, Story, Washington and Webster.
