Iowa men’s wrestling releases full 2023-24 season schedule

IOWA CITY — The picture of the University of Iowa men’s wrestling schedule has come into focus.

Iowa released its complete 2023-24 schedule Tuesday, starting the season Nov. 4 at Cal Baptist and hosting Oregon State for the home opener Nov. 19 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

The Big Ten schedule was announced earlier, including conference duals against Minnesota (Jan. 15), Purdue (Jan. 19), Northwestern (Jan. 28), defending conference and national champion Penn State (Feb. 9) and Wisconsin (Feb. 18).

Conference road duals include Nebraska (Jan. 12), Illinois (Jan. 26) and Michigan (Feb. 2). The Hawkeyes were 7-1 in Big Ten duals last season.

Iowa’s non-conference home slate consists of Oregon State the third week of November and Columbia on Dec. 8.

The Hawkeyes, who went 15-1 overall last season, face two of their top rivals on the road. Iowa faces Iowa State on Nov. 26 at Hilton Coliseum. The Hawkeyes close the regular season against Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla.

Iowa will also participate in the Soldier Salute on Dec. 29-30 at Xtream Arena in Coralville.

Maryland will host the Big Ten Championships on March 9-10 in College Park, Md. The NCAA Championships are set for March 21-23 at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo.

Iowa finished second in the conference and national tournament last season. The Hawkeyes had two Big Ten titlists and six All-Americans led by 141-pound conference champion and national runner-up Real Woods.

Tom Brands enters his 18th season as the Hawkeyes’ head coach. He owns a 265-25-1 overall dual record and 127-12 Big Ten dual mark. He has coached Iowa to four NCAA titles and five Big Ten crowns, sharing the 2015 title. Brands has coached 100 All-Americans, 13 national champions and 26 conference gold medalists.
