Reports surfaced Monday that Gabe Arnold was dismissed from the University of Iowa men’s wrestling program.
Iowa Sports Information department confirmed with The Gazette that Arnold is no longer on the team’s roster Tuesday and no additional comment will be made at this time.
Arnold was the 184-pound starter last season, qualifying for the NCAA Championships and placing fifth at the Big Ten Championships. He concluded his first official season with a 19-7 record.
Arnold was an 8-1 in his redshirt season during the 2023-24 season. He was a state champion for Iowa City High and was a two-time National Prep champion for Wyoming (Pa.) Seminary before becoming a Little Hawk. Arnold also won the 79-kilogram title at the 2023 U.S. Open and was a 2023 World Team Trials runner-up in men’s freestyle, according to his bio still listed on the Iowa website.
Justin Basch, the host of 2023-24 National Wrestling Media Association Podcast of the Year Baschamania Wrestling Podcast, reported via social media that Arnold confirmed his dismissal Monday.
Basch noted that Arnold will look for a new program. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
Iowa had a logjam in the upper-to-middle weights with All-American Patrick Kennedy at 174 and top 2024 recruit Angelo Ferrari at 184, which are the two weights Arnold has wrestled for the Hawkeyes.
