University of Iowa has been a leader of college wrestling. The athleticsdepartment took another step to the forefront of the sport, announcing it will add a women’s wrestling program.
The women’s wrestling program at Iowa will be the first in a Power Five conference.
Hawkeye Athletics had been considering the idea for years, Athletics director Gary Barta said, noting growing national interest in the sport while more women are attending colleges.
University of Iowa is the first NCAA Division I Power Five program to offer the sport.
