The 3-time NCAA champion won by technical fall in the quarterfinals and semifinals Thursday after a tight opening-round triumph

Former Iowa wrestler Spencer Lee has advanced to the men’s freestyle 57 kg gold-medal match at the Paris Olympics.

Lee won three matches Thursday to set up his Friday championship match against Japan’s Rei Higuchi, an Olympic silver medalist in 2016.

Lee won a first-period 14-4 technical fall in the semis against Uzbekistan's Gulomjon Abdullaev. Earlier, he beat Kyrgyzstan's Bekzat Almaz Uulu, 12-2, in the quarterfinals and edged China's Wanhao Zou in the opening round.
