University of Iowa freshman Angelo Ferrari received multiple accolades for his victory over Oklahoma State NCAA finalist Dustin Plott on Sunday.
Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday that the Hawkeye 184-pounder was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week and Freshman of the Week.
Ferrari scored two takedowns, including one in sudden victory, for a 6-3 decision over the three-time All-Amerrican and two-time Big 12 champion. The win helped Iowa to a 21-16 win over the Cowboys at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
It was his second win over a nationally-ranked wrestler and first top-3 victory in college.
Ferrari improved to 11-1 overall this season, winning titles at the Grand View Open and Soldier Salute.
Ferrari joins 149-pounder Kyle Parco (Jan. 9) and Drake Ayala (Jan. 23) as Hawkeyes to earn Wrestler of the Week honors.
Iowa closed the dual season with a 14-1 mark. The Hawkeyes return to action at the Big Ten Championships March 8-9 hosted by Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
