TIRANA, Albania — Iowa redshirt sophomore Kylie Welker won gold at the 2024 U23 World Championships on Friday.
Welker secured the gold medal at 72 kg. Senior Macey Kilty took silver at 62 kg.
Welker beat Vianne Rouleau with a quick pin in the gold medal match, sticking the Canadian in 1 minute, 12 seconds.
Kilty fell to Iryna Bondar of Ukraine, 12-3, in her final match. This was Kilty’s seventh world medal at all age levels.
Team USA also secured the women’s freestyle team title with 136 team points.
Kilty (65kg) and Welker (72kg) will remain in Albania to compete at the 2024 Senior World Championships starting Tuesday.
