LINCOLN, NEB. — Nebraska will be without one of its star players for Friday’s football game against Iowa.
Quarterback Adrian Martinez suffered a shoulder injury against Wisconsin and will miss Friday’s game, Nebraska head coach Scott Frost told reporters on Monday.
Logan Smothers, a redshirt freshman, is next in line on the Huskers’ depth chart. Smothers has attempted 11 passes in his collegiate career, only three of which have been in Big Ten play.
Martinez leads the Huskers in passing yards and rushing yards, and he has recorded at least two touchdowns in 10 of 11 games. His 2,863 passing yards through 11 games — or 260.3 per game — are a career-high and fourth-best in the Big Ten.
He completed an astonishing 90 percent of his passes — 18 of 20 — against Iowa last year and had a rushing touchdown in the Huskers’ 26-20 loss in Iowa City.
