Iowa picked up a commitment from a Class of 2019 running back Tuesday.
Tyler Goodson of Suwanee, Ga., announced in a YouTube video that he's picking the Hawkeyes. He'll join former high school teammate Jayden McDonald, a 2018 linebacker signee, in Iowa City. They won a Georgia state championship together with North Gwinnett last fall.
The 247Sports Composite has Goodson as a 3-star recruit, ranked No. 40 among running backs nationally and 60th overall in the state of Georgia. Both 247Sports and Rivals award him 3 stars.
Goodson, listed at 5-foot-10 and 192 pounds, narrowed his choices to Kentucky, Washington State, Michigan State, Iowa State, Iowa, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Nebraska in May.
Speculation that Goodson was choosing Iowa increased when 4-star Quincy, Ill., RB Jirehl Brock announced on June 18 he was no longer visiting the school. Brock had previously included the Hawkeyes in his list of finalists.
Iowa now has 14 known commitments in the Class of 2019. Goodson follows a flurry last weekend that included Indianapolis OL Justin Britt, Belleville, Mich., DL Jalen Hunt and Tampa, Fla., DB Dane Belton. Goodson is the first running back to commit in this Iowa class. The Hawkeyes signed Henry Geil (Green Bay, Wis.) last year as well as Tyrone Tracy (Indianapolis), who likely will move to receiver.
According to MaxPreps, Goodson rushed for 1,315 yards and 20 touchdowns on 178 carries as a junior last season, averaging 7.4 yards per carry and 109.6 per game. He has a few measurements listed on Hudl, including a 40-yard dash time of 4.54 seconds.
