CEDAR RAPIDS — Former Marion prep Blair Brooks said over the weekend he is leaving the University of Iowa football program and transferring to Iowa Western Community College.
Brooks red-shirted as a true freshman walk-on wide receiver this past season. He is the son of Iowa sideline reporter Rob Brooks and grandson of the late Bob Brooks, the legendary local sports broadcaster.
'I would like to thank the University of Iowa, Coach Ferentz, Coach Copeland and Coach Doyle for giving me the opportunity,' Brooks said on Twitter. 'Also would like to thank Hawkeye Nation for all the love and support.'
Iowa Western has one of the top junior college football programs in the nation. It is believed Brooks has his eye on eventually returning to the Hawkeyes at some point.
