CEDAR RAPIDS - Max White is headed west.
The Cedar Rapids Kennedy grad and former Iowa Hawkeyes running back announced over the weekend that he has committed to play his final season of college football at Wyoming.
White announced just before the start of spring ball that he was leaving Iowa. He has played in Iowa’s last 27 games, mostly as a special teams player and kick returner.
He had six carries for 35 yards this past season and practiced with the offense as a wildcat-formation quarterback late in the season when Iowa had a plethora of injures at the QB position. He also returned three kickoffs for 64 yards.
White was a walk on at Iowa but had been promised a spot on the roster when the NCAA changed rules in the offseason for FCS schools. Programs are allowed 105 players, all on scholarship.
Coincidentally, Wyoming’s director of player personnel is Austin Maus, a Kennedy graduate that played high school football with White’s older brother B.J.
