Jun. 19, 2018 4:15 pm
Former Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi was released Tuesday by the Canadian Football League's Calgary Stampeders.
Stanzi, 30, played in two games for Calgary last season, completing 4 of 8 passes for 53 yards and two interceptions.
Stanzi was picked by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL draft, and was with the Chiefs (2011-12), Jacksonville Jaguars (2013), Houston Texans (2014), New York Giants (2015) and Detroit Lions (2015). He never threw a pass in an NFL regular-season game.
He was 26-9 in three seasons as a starter at Iowa with 56 touchdown passes. He is the only Hawkeye to be the starting quarterback in three bowl wins.
