No. 6 Purdue Boilermakers defeat Iowa Hawkeyes, 83-73
Purdue led for all but the first 19 seconds

IOWA CITY — No. 6 Purdue scored 19 seconds into the game and led the rest of the way in its 83-73 men’s basketball win over Iowa Thursday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The Hawkeyes are 14-6 overall, 4-5 in the Big Ten. Purdue is 17-3, 6-3 after sweeping the two-game regular-season series against Iowa. The Boilermakers beat Iowa 77-70 at Purdue on Dec. 3.
Purdue shot 64.3 percent from the field in building a 48-33 halftime lead. The Boilermakers made 8 of their last 9 shots before halftime. Iowa made just 37.8 percent of its first-half shots, and was 3 of 13 from 3-point distance in the half on its way to 8-of-27 for the game.
The Boilermakers finished at 61.2 percent from the field. They made 13 of 22 3s. They won by double-digits despite making only 10 of 22 free throws.
Iowa forward Keegan Murray, the Big Ten’s leading scorer, committed his second foul with 11:19 left in the first half and didn’t play again until the start of the second half. He finished with 14 points.
The Hawkeyes went on an 11-0 run in the first five minutes of the second half to draw within 53-46, and got as close as 57-53 with 12:22 remaining. Kris Murray scored 10 straight Iowa points in that time, and had a game-high 23.
Purdue’s Jaden Ivey made a pair of 3-pointers within 28 seconds to up the Boilermakers’ lead to 63-55 with 11:25 remaining. Ivey, who missed Purdue’s last game with a hip flexor injury, didn’t start the game but scored 15 points and had four assists in 20 minutes.
Isaiah Thompson led the Boilermakers with 18 points.
Iowa’s next game is Monday night at Penn State (8-9, 3-6).
