The Gazette
Nov. 26, 2018 3:31 pm
Iowa fans don't have a Big Ten football championship game to look forward to this weekend, but there is a top-25 men's basketball matchup at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The Hawkeyes (5-0) moved up to No. 15 in this week's USA TODAY coaches poll. After taking on Pittsburgh (6-0) in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Tuesday, Iowa hosts No. 22 Wisconsin (5-1) in the Big Ten opener Friday. A trip to No. 8 Michigan State (5-1) follows Monday, then the annual Cy-Hawk game Thursday against an Iowa State (5-1) team that is receiving votes.
Gonzaga is the new No. 1 team in the country after knocking off Duke in the Maui Invitational title game last week. The Blue Devils fell from the top spot to No. 3, behind Kansas. Virginia and Michigan round out the top five.
No. 16 Ohio State and 18th-ranked Purdue give the Big Ten six top-25 teams this week, tied with the ACC for the most.
After Kansas in the Big 12, Kansas State is No. 10, Texas is 17th and Texas Tech is 19th.
