1. Iowa is 4-0 in NCAA first-round games under Fran McCaffery. The Hawkeyes lost to Tennessee in the 2014 “First Four.”
2. Richmond is 3-0 over No. 5-seeds as a 12th-seed. Its eight wins when seeded 12th or worse are twice as many as any other school in tournament history.
3. No. 5-seeds are 93-51 all-time against No. 12-seeds. Iowa has done quite well as a No. 5. The other three times Iowa was a 5-seed, it went to the Final Four in 1980 and to the Sweet 16 in 1988 and 1999.
4. Iowa’s all-time NCAA record is 31-29. Richmond’s is 8-9. The Spiders are making their first appearance in the tournament since 2011.
