DJ Carton crosses Iowa off his recruiting list

Jul. 8, 2018 7:17 pm, Updated: Jul. 9, 2018 2:17 pm
Five-star men's basketball recruits don't come from Iowa often, and they stay here less frequently.
So is the case with 2019 recruit DJ Carton, point guard from Bettendorf. Carton narrowed his college choices from six to three on Sunday, and Iowa was one of the three left behind.
Carton will apparently play for a Big Ten program, however. He said, via Twitter, that his final three choices are Indiana, Michigan and Ohio State.
Rivals.com lists Carton as the No. 17 prospect in the Class of 2019, the premier prep in the state since Harrison Barnes of Ames (who went to North Carolina) in 2010.
Carton averaged a Bettendorf-record 23.6 points per game last season, as well as 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists.
Iowa, Marquette and Xavier had also been in Carton's top six.
The Hawkeyes have a 2019 verbal commitment from forward Patrick McCaffery of Iowa City West, a four-star recruit and the son of Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery.
