Former Iowa basketball player Ahmad Wagner has found a new home — the Kentucky football team.
Wagner announced in March he was leaving the Hawkeye basketball program to pursue football. He announced Tuesday he will enroll at Kentucky.
'First off I would like to thank God for the blessing and opportunity he has put in front of me,' he tweeted. 'with that being said after much thought and consideration from my family I will be furthering my academic and athletic career at the University of Kentucky! #BBN'
The tweet was accompanied by a photo of Wagner in a Kentucky football uniform.
A native of Yellow Springs, Ohio, the 6-foot-7, 235-pound Wagner was recruited by Kentucky to play football out of high school, but he chose basketball and Iowa instead. He was a four-star wide receiver and ranked the 33rd best wide receiver in the country, according to 247Sports.
He averaged 3.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in his 96-game career as a Hawkeye basketball player.
Kentucky is coached by former Iowa defensive back Mark Stoops.
