I was born and raised in Marshalltown Iowa, I have four brothers and wonderful parents. We were raised in a very religious family and education was a must in our family. We all graduated from college and had teaching credentials. I went to high school in Marshalltown and then went to the University of Northern Iowa to get my B.S. degree and my Master's degree from Drake University in school administration. I have taught in the Cedar Rapids schools for over 30 years.
I have been taught to give back to my community, an idea called service. I have been a coach, very active in my church and sponsor an annual picnic for people in a senior residence Home.
I have desired to serve my community for many years and after watching the Linn County supervisors' salary continue to go up each year, I decided now is the time to act. I agree to serve for an annual salary of $70,000. I can save us taxpayers $33,000 per year and in a four-year term, I will save $132,000.
I also will have a taxpayer advisory group, consisting of both men and women, where I will discuss with them what they desire to have their money spent for in the county. To serve means you do more than you are paid for in the community, not get automatic raises and make three jobs into five jobs.
I understand that the tax money belongs to the taxpayers and not the supervisors. I am a business man and I have run my own business, so I understand the cost of taxes.
I will be your servant and listen to your recommendations and consider this a part-time job. We will develop an attractive environment for our business community in addition to protecting the taxpayer's interest. My dream is to have all five supervisors agree to $70,000 a year which in a four-year term will save us at least $660,000. To me this is a lot of money!
