Hello, My name is Marty Hoeger and I am running for Cedar Rapids City Council as the District 1 representative.
The reason I am running for another term is to keep the great momentum going we have in our great city.
As a city employee in 2008 during the historic floods, I saw first hand the devastation this event had on so many lives and businesses. Since 2008 the city has committed to and are implementing a 1.3 billion flood protection system with 57% completed on the east side and 19% complete on the west side. I want to continue the commitment to these neighborhoods that they are protected from future events.
We are in unprecedented times in the city for economic development. Currently we have over $1 billion of investment happening with the Google and QTS data centers and the casino brings in another $275 million in investment on the west side. Not only do these three projects bring in property taxes and jobs for years to come they also will be making additional payments into a community betterment enterprise fund over the next 25 years that will exceed $95 million These funds will be used for projects that benefit the Cedar Rapids community as a whole.
Along with these three large projects we have significant projects effecting our core areas such as Kingston Village and the Czech Village/Newbo area. In the last 5 years Cedar Rapids building permits have totaled over $4 billion
Yes we have so many things to brag about in Cedar Rapids, but we do have so much work left to do. We need to address the homeliness population in our community to ensure that all citizens have access to safe living facilities.
We need to continue to work to be creative to provide affordable housing.
We need to continue to explore ways and implement best practices to make neighborhoods safer.
I am honored to be your current representative in District 1 and ask for your vote and re-elect me as your City of Cedar Rapids Council representative.
Marty Hoeger is running for re-election in Cedar Rapids City Council District 1.
