My name is Heather Hora and I am running for re-election for Iowa House in District 92.
I am a Christian, wife, mother and farmer from rural Washington County. I farm alongside my husband of 20 years, Kurt, and our three teenage children. Our families have been in Washington and Johnson Counties for over 150 years, something we are very proud of. I served on the Iowa Pork Board, still serve on the Washington County Pork Board and volunteer for many school, church, and community organizations. Our farm has been recognized with a Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award, which is an award that recognizes livestock producers that go above and beyond in being a good neighbor both environmentally as well as in the community.
Looking ahead to next session there are many important issues to work on, and property tax reform with be at the top of the list. I supported the governors Property Tax Relief Initiative that provided $ 100 million in property tax relief and expanded the exemptions for seniors and Veterans. There still is more to be done and it will not be an easy task, but there is a central theme while knocking on the doors in our district, over and over I hear about the burden of property taxes. High property taxes also lead to high rents and unaffordable housing.
Affordable housing is another priority of mine. Last session I had many meetings with school districts, homebuilders, businesses, and homeowners who all talked about homes, availability and affordability. We have out of control senseless regulations that are not only placing undue burden on homebuilders but are making the cost of homeownership out of reach. Home ownership has always been a cornerstone to the American dream. We need to make homeownership not only available in rural Iowa but affordable. This will contribute to job creation and economic growth in our communities that need it most.
I have grown up a member of this community. I am raising my family and run our family farm in this community. I believe that your problems are my problems. We are rural Iowa, and we need a representative in Des Moines who not only understands the blessings and the burdens we experience but one who lives them as well. I am that candidate and I would appreciate your vote on or before Nov. 5.
