North Liberty City Council: Terry Donahue
Terry Donahue, North Liberty Council candidate
Oct. 12, 2015 3:09 pm
I enjoy city politics! I have served as a North Liberty council member for the past eight years and would like to continue to do so. Presently I am on the Metropolitan Planning Organization of Johnson County, North Liberty's Small Business Loan Committee and act as mayor pro-tem. My past city government experiences include being a member of the planning and zoning commission for North Liberty, councilor and mayor for 18 years in Creston, Iowa. During these periods of time my duties included being President of the Iowa League of Cities and various boards/commissions including law enforcement, transportation, mental health planning and community development. Recent and current pursuits have been Chairman of the North Liberty Centennial Committee with fantastic help from many volunteers and businesses. For the last four years, I volunteer at Van Allen Elementary School two mornings per week actively assisting students. My work experience before retirement has centered on management and administration.
As North Liberty's population has substantially increased, sustainable community needs have grown. North Liberty citizens will need increased services including local transportation and continue our efforts to insure affordable housing for all income groups. Our seniors, the disabled and economically challenged may need additional services, activities and then access to those programs. My goal will be to identify and develop the above.
Our infrastructure is proceeding as planned with water and wastewater plant expansions and road development. The future includes widening of Penn Street and planning for Dubuque Street to address accessibility for Liberty High School. Early planning is starting for a new I-380 interchange on Forevergreen Road. I will work with others in developing Centennial Park as well as a dog park being requested by our citizens.
My desire is to maintain the small successful business structures we have. They need our patronage and attention to continue to operate in our community. I will work with developers/individuals in any way I can to bring other businesses to North Liberty.
