Marion Council Ward 3: Will Brandt
Will Brandt, Marion Council candidate
Oct. 18, 2015 6:00 am
Marion, can you even think a better place to live? I sure can't and with all the awards our city has been getting it seems like many others agree! I was born and raised in Marion, graduated from Linn-Mar in 1993 and have lived in Ward 3 for over 10 years. I am honored to call Marion my home.
I am the proud father of three daughters, two attend Marion High School and one goes to Starry Elementary, and have been a licensed Realtor for over five years now, loving every day of my job. Having been involved in the community for several years, I feel it is time for me to take that next step and seek election to city council. Our city is experiencing massive growth and we need to keep Marion on the positive track which has made it one of the most desirable cities in our great nation to live in.
As your city council person I would focus on some key priorities, including helping the city manage growth in a fiscally responsible way. That growth needs to be focused on bringing more commercial and industrial business to the city which will help diversify our tax base as well as create new jobs. However with that growth we still need to update the infrastructure. I will make sure that the tax dollars that are being spent are going to much-needed projects that will benefit the citizens of Marion. Additionally, revitalization of the Uptown District is key to the city's growth. Continuing to make Marion a desirable place to live for our current residents and to attract new residents and business is a priority.
I would also make better engagement and communication between the council and community a priority. We could accomplish this with Ward meetings which would include the public, the council members and city staff. Everyone needs to be part of the discussion especially in a city that is experiencing so much growth and change. This way the people have the ability to voice opinions, concerns and get questions answered. This type of increased communication would help clear up misconceptions on issues. You have my commitment to take all views into consideration, weigh the options and vote for what is best for Marion as a whole.
I would appreciate your vote on Nov. 3.
