LINN-MAR ISENBERG: Leading Linn-Mar into the future
Tim Isenberg, guest columnist

I am honored to have served Linn-Mar for the past four years on the board of education. One of the reasons I ran four years ago is because I have been positively influenced by the examples of my mother and two aunts who are former teachers, my sister who has taught kindergarten for over twenty years and finally, my daughter who is an elementary education major. Another reason is my strong dedication to our community, spurring my involvement over the years in civic organizations, school committees, and coaching sports teams. I am a Program Manager at Rockwell Collins where the expectation to think strategically while maintaining fiscal management translates to my duties to the Linn-Mar Board of Education.
Since being elected to the board in 2011, I have been instrumental in advancing the overall quality of Linn-Mar's facilities, and working to bolster our administration, teaching and support staff. Through strategic planning and sound fiscal management the tax levy has been lowered 3 of the past 4 years; the digital content of the curriculum has been expanded, and new facilities have been constructed.
I am excited to work with our new superintendent and his team, as together we lead Linn-Mar into the future, addressing major challenges facing our district. A major challenge is related to an increase in student population, impacting every aspect of the work of the board, including: ensuring proper class sizes, maintaining and expanding facilities to meet student needs; and improving curriculum offerings and learning environments. While our strategic plan has served us well, it should be refreshed. Likewise, considering the diminished supplemental state aid provided this year, and with future aid undecided, near-term vigilance coupled with long-term provisions need to be continually monitored. Finally, our use of technology needs constant evaluation, ensuring our students have the necessary tools to advance their learning opportunities.
I will continue my focus on putting Students First, to include All the Students, meaning that regardless of the issue before the board, the impact on each and every student is primary. Likewise, I will continue to work cooperatively with other school board members, conscientiously advancing the best solutions for Linn-Mar. Finally I will continue to open communication avenues and listen to our students, parents, and community. With your support and vote I will continue to help Linn-Mar be a shining star across the state.
