Let’s unleash potential, control risk

As an Iowa Senate candidate, I am honored by the opportunity to ask the people of District 39 for their votes on Nov. 4. In the past year, I have enjoyed even more the inspiration and education I have received by asking them for their advice. Education, health care and the economy are major issues of concern for many Iowans.
Health care costs represent the largest threat to our economy today, and a world-class education is the key to economic growth tomorrow. My perspective on both is informed by practical experience as a school board member and an advocate for ensuring the growing needs of Iowa seniors are met. That is why I represent the best choice in this race.
If elected, I will continue to fight to restore our state as an educational leader and protect the fixed-income, aging population in Iowa. The first will unleash economic potential, while the second will control economic risk.
Education is an important priority. I will advocate for strong local control of schools; improved teacher, student and parent accountability; and renewed pre-eminence for Iowa's educational system. It is vital the state honors its commitment to our local schools. Our elected officials must be mindful of our school funding needs, while ensuring they honor those commitments. Too often, legislators have not been able to honor those commitments, resulting in local property taxpayers making up the difference. This is not fair to our schools, our students or local property taxpayers.
Affordable health care is a concern for many Iowans. It is imperative we continue to pursue affordable health care policies for our citizens, and this includes removing barriers to make Iowa a better place to live long after retirement.
There are many factors that impact Iowa's economy. I have a lifelong appreciation for agriculture, and understand this is the economic engine driving our state. We must focus on eliminating unnecessary regulations that impede farming and hinder economic growth. Our elected officials must apply this same vision to improving our business climate. When we reduce stifling regulations on Iowa businesses, it creates more career opportunities for all Iowans and enhances economic growth.
I am a proven leader who shares your values and concerns, and I am asking for your support and your vote.
