I'm campaigning to serve as a representative for Iowa House District 91.
I'm the proud grandson of an Iowa county farmer. Son of a construction worker, and a hardworking, generous mother.
I’’ve been a first generation college student, wrestler, teacher and volunteer firefighter. I’m a state park enthusiast. A husband. A father. It's my job and joy to get kids learning outdoors.
This campaign seed was planted when I attended an event to discuss the legislative impact on our AEAs. I was approached there about running to give constituents in House District 91 a Democratic option on their ballot. As I heard the emotions pour out from educators in the room, I knew I had to do something.
As someone raised not to discuss politics, I never expected to be running for the Iowa House, but I realize now that we should be having conversations about politics. We are all affected by decisions made in Des Moines. We should pay attention to the things that matter to us.
I'm running to improve Education through stakeholder input and adequate funding. I'm running to promote conservation and good land-stewardship policies. I'm running to create and expand affordability options for Iowans.
These are the things that matter to me. These things affect my family and my work. These are the things that I’m ready and willing to work long and hard for.
I value common sense policymaking, decency and hard-work. I think we need more humanity and less extremes in all politics.
I’m for logic and cooperation over political agendas and intolerance. I'm running to cement a legacy of service for my three children.
Jay Gorsh is the Democratic candidate in House District 91.
