My wife, Diana, and I have lived in Coralville more than 33 years, raising two children here. My passion for our great city is demonstrated by my extensive history of service and appreciation for the many wonderful citizens I have met and worked alongside who share “that Coralville Pride.”
I am a former Coralville volunteer firefighter and served on the library board of trustees for 20 years. For the past 10 years, I have been a member of the City Council while also serving as mayor pro-tem since 2007. My wife also served 15 years on City Council before me.
Our well-planned, thriving community is the envy of cities across the state. Coralville's success is the result of the vision of the citizens, Council and mayor with expertise provided by the city administrator and city staff. The Council has functioned as a unified team, using a consensus decision-making process, resulting in everyone being on the same agenda.
The results are impressive: a vibrant city with services and amenities typically seen only in cities with much larger populations.
With Jim Fausett retiring, Coralville needs to elect a mayor with the experience, knowledge and passion to continue leading the City for years to come. I have proven experience in working cooperatively with elected officials and staff of neighboring cities, the county and the school district. I also have the knowledge to work with the Council to make wise financial decisions.
Our decisions have transitioned the Iowa River Landing from a contaminated industrial park to a highly visible gateway that provides first-class health care, new and exciting shopping and entertainment venues, and additional office and residential living opportunities.
The City has also invested wisely to attract more than 1,400 well-paying jobs to the University Research Park and to protect our City from future floods. These projects, which have resulted in significant private sector investments, new jobs, and new residents in Coralville, have all been achieved without raising property tax rates for four years while having a tax levy rate that is 8.6 percent less than the 22 cities in Iowa that are larger than Coralville.
Finally, my passion for Coralville and its citizens will manifest itself as Coralville's chief ambassador in the role of mayor. Thank you for your vote, and I look forward to serving you as Mayor of Coralville.
