Hiawatha City Council: Aime Wichtendahl
Aime Wichtendahl, council candidate
Oct. 25, 2015 5:00 am
My name is Aime Wichtendahl and I am a candidate for the Hiawatha City Council. I am running to bring a new voice and fresh leadership to the city of Hiawatha.
Today it seems that our elected officials have become detached from the voters they are supposed to represent. This is true in Congress, which has an abysmal nine percent approval rating, yet it is almost certain that over 90 percent will be re-elected in 2016.
It is true of our governor, who after six terms is not interested in listening to the legislature, let alone the voters of Iowa and it is true of the Hiawatha City Council.
Our current city council struggles in attempting to implement new growth. It has ignored the needs of the community and in doing so it has expelled both homeowners and businesses that have been an integral party of the community for many years.
I am running to usher in an era of responsible growth that balances the needs of the community with our need to develop new businesses.
It is one of my passions to help small businesses develop and succeed. As a former small business consultant for Godaddy.com I have helped businesses throughout the United States adapt to the changing business environments of the 21st century. Currently, I am website consultant with hibu. I create unique web content for a wide range of small businesses.
It is my knowledge of what it takes to make small businesses successful which also will make Hiawatha successful.
I am also running because there is an opportunity for Hiawatha to lead in the implementation of new, green energy technology. With foreign wars and the uncertain price of fossil fuels it is important that we don't leave our city at risk for higher energy costs.
Over the next decade, rooftop solar and other clean technologies will become more prominent. It is my goal to create an environment that makes it easy for both homeowners and businesses to implement these technologies and lead our city into a green future.
All of these things are possible with a generation of new voices and new ideas leading the city council. So on November 3, I ask for your vote and your help to bring change to Hiawatha.
Thank you.
