I’m Amy Hospodarsky, and I’m running for Iowa City Council in District B.
I’m running because I believe local government works best when it is compassionate, creative, and connected to the people it serves. Iowa City is full of energy and ideas, and I want to make sure our city government reflects that. I see a future where residents are welcomed into decision-making, where creativity solves complex challenges, and where collaboration turns plans on paper into real progress.
I bring experience that prepares me to serve from day one. I’ve led organizations, managed multimillion-dollar budgets, and directed community-wide initiatives. I’ve served on boards including CommUnity Crisis Services, The Englert Theatre, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Johnson County, the Johnson County Affordable Housing Coalition, and the South of Six Business District, overseeing capital campaigns, hiring leaders, and setting long-term vision.
My approach has always been the same: ask good questions, make informed decisions, and hold organizations accountable to their mission and their impact.
As Director at Crowded Closet, I report to a board of directors and manage budgets, staff, and strategic priorities. That experience gives me a 360-degree view of governance, aligning vision, resources, and accountability so ideas become action.
If elected, I will bring:
- Compassionate, Curious Leadership: Listening deeply and finding the best path forward. Courageous, Creative Problem-Solving: Tackling challenges with new ideas and practical solutions.
- Collaborative Action: Building alignment between residents, organizations, and city staff to create real change.
Iowa City has an extraordinary foundation, and together we can shape its next chapter with compassion, courage, and collaboration. I would be honored to earn your support this November.
Amy Hospodarsky is a candidate for Iowas City Council District B.
