My name is Jennifer (Jenny) Struthers, and I was raised on the west side of Iowa City. I was educated in the Iowa City Community School District and the University of Iowa. I attended Horn Elementary, Northwest Junior High, and West High School. While at the University of Iowa, I earned a BBA, MBA, and JD.
After graduating from law school in 2001, I relocated to Chicago and practiced at Winston and Strawn. In 2004, I relocated to St. Louis and worked for the Polsinelli law firm. In 2007, my family and I moved to Coralville. I worked with Chuck Orr at Orr & Associates in Coralville for several years.
My husband, Bob, and I have two children who attended Wickham, Northwest, and West.
For the past 13 years I have served on the Executive PTO Board for either Wickham, Northwest, or West High. I have also been involved in the community as both a Girl Scout troop leader and Cub Scout volunteer. I have served on many committees and helped organize several school/community events and fundraising efforts.
I am particularly proud of my work helping with the Wickham Technology Initiative (getting all classrooms outfitted with educational technology in 2012) and construction of the first accessible playground not only at Wickham but also in Coralville (2014). I am also proud of working with committees at West to bring back the Party After Prom and initiating the West High Homecoming parade. I have also worked in the Iowa City Community School District as a substitute teacher. I am proud and appreciative of Coralville’s support of local schools and would like to continue this support on the Coralville City Council.
I believe the city’s leaders have done a very good job, particularly in the development of the Iowa River Landing area. I hope to continue in the footsteps of those elected officials who have preceded me in developing common sense and fiscally prudent plans that allow Coralville continued growth and prosperity. The city has recently made improvements in its bond rating, and I would like to make sure it continues to improve.
I am running for Coralville City Council because I am committed to making a strong and positive contribution to my community. I am dedicated to maintaining a friendly community where residents feel safe and heard. I will serve with an open mind and a readiness to listen to all residents' concerns.
Jennifer Struthers is a candidate for Coralville City Council.
