I am a lifelong Iowa resident, and I have lived in Coralville since 1978. Prior to settling in Coralville, I lived in Iowa City and Rota, Spain when my husband served in the U.S. Navy. I am a graduate of City High and the University of Iowa. I retired from the UI Treasury.
The City of Coralville’s staff do a great job for the city, and I want to see this continue. I am politically neutral and will work for the best interests of all the residents of Coralville. I also want to recognize the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) which brings many events to Coralville and millions of dollars in spending. A local-option sales tax would increase the revenue receive by the city from the spending generated by the CVB.
I am married to Tom Gill, and we had two daughters & five granddaughters. I was an active volunteer at Coralville Central Elementary while our daughters and granddaughters were attending school. I was awarded the Governors Volunteer Award by the ICCSD for leading the landscaping committee at Coralville Central and obtaining matching grant funds for the project. I am a long time member of the Friends of the Coralville Library (Friends) and I have been the book sale chairperson for the Friends for the past 15 years. I would like to emphasize the benefits of volunteerism and build opportunities for residents of all ages. As an example, the Coralville Library currently has a wonderful teen group with a Teen Advisory Board that plans the group’s activities and they’re responsible for organizing and carrying them out. Learning leadership skills while having fun.
Deb Gill is a candidate for Coralville City Council.
