Advocating for Iowa taxpayers
Nov. 2, 2022 6:00 am
Roby Smith | Candidate for State Treasurer
I am a proud husband and father to four wonderful children. I am a former banker, small business owner and state senator from Davenport. As a state senator I have worked to make state government more efficient and effective, have held the line on spending and have passed the largest tax cuts in state history, eliminating state tax on retirement income. At the same time, I have always made sure we funded our priorities in education, health care and public safety.
In my 12 years in the Iowa Senate I never missed a single vote on the senate floor. But after 40 years, my opponent has become complacent and has lost interest. Last year our 529 college savings plans were downgraded to one level above failing. In addition, the Biden administration proposed a rule that would allow the IRS to snoop into Iowans’ bank accounts for any transaction over $600. State treasurers from across the country stood up against this and stopped it, while my opponent did nothing.
As state treasurer, I will continue to be a fierce advocate for the Iowa taxpayer, working to maximize return on investments and advocating for continuing to cut taxes and return more money to the hardworking men and women of this state. My opponent has not stood up for the Iowa taxpayer and did not support eliminating state tax on retirement income. I will stand up to the Biden administration and the IRS. I will make sure Iowans’ taxpayer dollars are safe and secure and that Iowans’ pension funds are solvent and available for them when they are ready to retire. I will work to turnaround the college savings plan. I will work to improve financial literacy across this state and increase the number of Iowans saving money through the 529 college savings plans, IAble and other savings plans like the First-Time Homebuyer Savings Plans I created as an Iowa Senator.
I love this state and am proud of my record in the Iowa Senate. After 40 years, it is time for a new State Treasurer who is eager and energetic and who will roll up his sleeves and work hard every day for the Iowa taxpayer. I will be that Treasurer and I’m asking you to join our campaign at Robysmith.com. It would be an honor to continue to serve you in this new role and I am humbly asking for your vote Nov. 8.
Roby Smith is the Republican candidate for state treasurer.
