A voice for positive change in Cedar Rapids

I am a proud Cedar Rapidian who is the only non-incumbent running for an at-large seat on the Cedar Rapids City Council and offer a different choice to voters. I chose to seek an at-large seat because I want to be a representative and a voice for all citizens in the community. My priorities on the City Council are to help ensure that Cedar Rapids is safe, beautiful, and welcoming to all.
Since moving from Chicago to Cedar Rapids in 2018, I have become a recognized leader in the community, serving as treasurer on several nonprofit boards (Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, CSPS, Revival Theatre Company, and CR Pride) and volunteering for Feed Iowa First, Harmony School of Music, and The Academy for Scholastic and Personal Success.
An accomplishment I am especially proud of is being the founder of the Wellington Heights Tree Equity Coalition, which raised funds to remove 25 tree stumps and plant 40 native-species trees throughout the Wellington Heights neighborhood. In total, I planted and helped care for 175-plus trees on public rights-of-ways and boulevards after the 2020 derecho.
I also continue to partner with the nonprofit Murals and More and was instrumental in getting public murals painted in the Time Check neighborhood and on The Arc building in downtown Cedar Rapids.
Currently, I work at Transamerica as a Finance and Controls Manager. I am a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (i.e., process improvement expert), and earned my MBA in finance, marketing, and strategy from Northwestern University. Throughout my 30+ year career, I have consistently been recognized as a results-driven and collaborative leader with proven success in solving complex problems.
My priorities focus on issues that are practical, achievable, and important to every citizen.
I promise to make changes that will affect everyone positively and directly. I will prioritize road maintenance and repairs, advocate for affordable housing and sustainable development, facilitate public-private partnerships to fund neighborhood improvement and beautification projects, and support our police officers, firefighters, and schoolteachers.
Additional information about me and my priorities can be found at www.davidmaierforcitycouncil.com or on my campaign Facebook page David Maier for Cedar Rapids City Council.
I humbly ask for your vote for a City Council at-large seat on Nov. 7.
